HUAMAO® polyvinyl alcohol combines high tensile strength with ease of film formation. Additionally, HUAMAO® polyvinyl alcohol exhibits excellent adhesive and bonding characteristics. Partially hydrolyzed grades have better adhesion to hydrophobic surfaces. The degree of hydrolysis affects the water sensitivity of both the resin and film. Water resistance increases with increasing hydrolysis. The super hydrolyzed grades should be used when maximum water resistance and humidity resistance are desired. HUAMAO® polyvinyl alcohols are generally unaffected by greases, petroleum hydrocarbons and animal or vegetable oils. Resistance to organic solvents increases with the degree of hydrolysis. HUAMAO® polyvinyl alcohol film can be plasticized with glycerol or the lower molecular weight glycols. These materials generally act as humectants, holding water in the film.

First, Paper coating with pigment binder

Polyvinyl alcohol is a good pigment binder. In the past, the common pigment binder was animal glue. Later, Casein was widely used. Because casein is extracted from milk, 100kg milk is only extracted from the 3kg casein, so in terms of resources and costs have greatly limited its application on coated paper. The use of polyvinyl alcohol instead of casein, can greatly save the cost of adhesives, reduce the cost of paper. Because of the use of polyvinyl alcohol as a binder, can be lower than other adhesives, and it provides a strong coating strength the gloss is better, it is possible to use cheap raw materials such as sticking to all or part of the replacement of expensive titanium dioxide. In addition to dosage reduction, the degree of self, color, thickness and luster good, polyvinyl alcohol coating than casein, the starch coating of anti-fouling, ink-absorbing, soft, water resistance has improved. Moreover, the quality of polyvinyl alcohol is stable, and it is not easy to spoilage.

Second, Paper and board sizing agent

Polyvinyl alcohol has high membrane strength, toughness, abrasion resistance, strong adhesion and oil resistance. Therefore, it can be used in both internal sizing and surface sizing. The use of polyvinyl alcohol in the form of aqueous solution, using roller pressure, spraying or calendering to apply glue.

(1) Internal sizing
A small amount of polyvinyl alcohol effectively increases the strength and toughness of securities paper, ledger paper, index paper, drawing and other advanced paper. In cellophane, polyvinyl alcohol can improve paper strength, transparency, gloss, grease resistance and dimensional stability. Polyvinyl alcohol can be used together with the general plasticizer and the transparent agent after the paper is molded, the glue presses the light.

(2) Surface sizing
In order to improve the physical strength of paper, or to improve the surface tension and printability of paper, oxidized starch can be used as the surface sizing agent. Polyvinyl alcohol instead of starch as surface sizing agent has been successful, sizing can greatly improve the paper oil resistance, organic drug resistance, tearing strength, flexural strength and other properties. As a surface sizing agent, polyvinyl alcohol can be used alone, can also be used with oxidized starch. Especially in the production of high-quality paper, polyvinyl alcohol and oxidized starch are often used. This use can make the slurry have thixotropic properties, thus reducing the slurry to the inside of the paper infiltration, and the paper has greater compressibility and printing dot reproducibility.

Third, Adhesive for paper and paperboard processing

Polyvinyl alcohol is widely used in paper and paperboard for industrial adhesives to the adhesive for paper or cardboard. This includes making bags, making boxes of adhesives and paper laminating adhesives, which are used to make fibreboard, liner, etc. Polyvinyl alcohol, a part of alcoholysis, can be used as adhesive for moisture-resistant adhesive, polyvinyl alcohol and starch with complete alcoholysis as the binder for the waterproof paper.
