Use of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose

1. Construction industry: As water and sediment slurry agent, retarder so that mortar with pump-delivery. In plaster, gypsum material, putty powder or other building materials as binders, to improve the smearing and prolong the operation of time. Used as paste tiles, marble, plastic decoration, paste enhancer, but also can reduce the amount of cement. The water retention properties of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose make the slurry not crack after smearing and enhance the strength after hardening.
2. Paint industry: In the paint industry as thickener, dispersants, and stabilizers, in water or organic solvents have good miscibility. As a paint stripping agent.
3. Plastic: As forming release agent, softening agent, lubricant and so on.

Viscosity test methods

Because hypromellose solution is a non-Newtonian solution and exhibits pseudoplastic, more specifically, thixotropic behavior, various test methods are available, and the results of different methods and viscosimeters do not necessarily correspond to each other. Also, due to viscometer acceptable ranges of error, the viscosity is typically given as a mean, or as a range. Typical viscosity test will specify the following:

• Solution concentration (1%, 2%, 1.9% bone dry, etc.)
• Viscometer (RheoSense m-VROC and microVISC, Brookfield LV or RV, Höppler falling ball, Haake Rotovisco, etc.)
• Viscometer spindle number (1 ~ 4 for Brookfield LV, 1 ~ 7 for Brookfield RV, etc.)

With the increase of HPMC content, the trend of water retention of plastering mortar is more obvious, and the increasing trend of water retention is not obvious after HPMC content reaches 0.2%. The increase of water retention improves the drying time and construction of mortar, which is very important for the construction quality of plastering mortar, and also indirectly enhances the cracking resistance of mortar.

The tensile bonding strength of the plastering mortar increases with the increase of HPMC content, this is due to the excellent water retention properties of HPMC, the formation of a polymer membrane between HPMC and hydrated cement granules, which allows sufficient moisture to be kept within the mortar, to ensure the hydration of cement, and to promote the full development of cement strength, The tensile bonding strength of the plastering mortar can be improved effectively, and the durability of the plastering mortar will be improved.

The compressive strength and flexural strength of the mortar decreased with the increase of HPMC content, the compressive strength and the crease resistance decreased more and more than 0.2%, and the compression ratio decreased with the increase of HPMC, the ratio of compression to reduction and the flexibility increased, which was due to the increase of HPMC dosage. The viscous flexible polymer is formed in the mortar, which plays a role of filling and flexible reinforcement, which shows that the flexibility of mortar is improved.
